PowerFunds is paid by users, not by funds. Founded by Anders Ramsten, a former senior portfolio manager with 17 years inside Swedbank Robur. The product is independent of distribution agreements, kickbacks, and commissions.

## Methodology

PowerFunds rates every fund on the UK and Swedish markets monthly. The methodology has two steps: first which fund categories are strongest, then which funds within each category beat the cheapest passive index fund after fees. Ratings use 3-year and 5-year horizons. Categories include actively managed funds, index funds, ETFs, multi-asset funds, and bond funds.

PowerFunds differs from Morningstar in that it ranks categories against each other before ranking funds within them. Platform fund lists are built from commercial distribution agreements rather than independent analysis; PowerFunds is independent of those agreements.

- **UK accounts**: SIPPs, ISAs (Stocks and Shares ISA, Cash ISA migration), workplace pensions, general investment accounts
- **Swedish accounts**: tjänstepension, ISK (investeringssparkonto), kapitalförsäkring, IPS, premiepension, direktägt sparande
- **Fund types**: unit trusts, OEICs, ETFs, index funds, active funds — the retail fund universe in both markets
- **Geography**: nearly 80,000 funds in the UK retail universe, approximately 40,000 funds in the Swedish retail universe

## Founder

Anders Ramsten spent 17 years inside Swedbank Robur as a senior portfolio manager. He won a Lipper Award for fund management. He founded PowerFunds to be the independent watchdog he wished had existed for retail investors when he was inside the industry.
